The Chicago Meat Collective is dedicated to education, but we are also committed to access. Within our current food system, meat that has been raised in ways that are healthy for the animals, the environment, and the consumer carries a heavy price tag. There is work to be done to change those systems, but we can also make a difference here and now by using the robust network of non-profits that already exist to address inequality and ask, “how can we make this product available to more people who need it, right now?”
We have partnered with Fresh Market, a "client-choice food pantry” operated by Breakthrough Urban Ministries, "that provides groceries and various supplies to families in East Garfield Park. Residents also receive access to legal aid, food stamps, housing and employment information, financial management, GED certification and family workshops." You can learn more about Fresh Market and Breakthrough Urban Ministries here : https://breakthrough.org/programs/fresh-market/ .
The Chicago Meat Collective has chosen to partner with Fresh Market by donating local meat on a monthly basis in an effort to extend access to high quality protein to communities in need. The sky is the limit for these donations, and the more monthly support we gather the larger quantities we can give. Become a “Share the Wealth Hero” by pledging to donate $10 per month (and receive a discount on CMC classes and events), or make a one time donation of any quantity.
Thank you for supporting access to high quality meat for all!
